You won’t be needing anything else with this Homemade Meat Sauce! Oh, man, you need this recipe in your life! Just follow these steps that I have provided, and you are good to go. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 and ½ lbs. lean ground beef
3 c (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp olive oil
1 lb. Italian sausage, removed from their casings (I used Hot Italian Sausage)
2 c (16 oz.) tomato sauce
5 garlic cloves, finely minced
2 tsp Italian Seasoning
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 large white onion, finely diced
½ tsp fennel seeds
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp dried basil
¼-1/2 tsp crushed red peppers flakes (optional)
1-2 tsp salt, to taste
½ tsp ground black pepper
Directions:
Place a Dutch oven on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add olive oil and allow it to become hot.
Add the garlic and onion, then sauté until aromatic and soft.
Add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Stir and cook until crumbly and brown. Discard excess fat from the pot.
Add tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes, then stir until well blended.
Add tomato paste, then stir and cook for about a minute to remove the raw taste.
Add Italian seasoning, dried basil, red pepper flakes, fennel seeds, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended.
Reduce the heat to low, then simmer everything for about 2 hours or until the sauce has reduced to half. Make sure to stir from time to time.
Add more seasonings if needed. Make sure to taste first before adding anything.
Serve and enjoy!
