A Southern Living Tender Homemade Sour Cream Biscuits Recipe

For most of my adult life, I have tried many different kinds of biscuits. Some recipes work and some don’t. While some are okay, this one is good. It’s a simple recipe that you can trust. In years, I haven’t tried another. These biscuits have been my favorite for years, but I can’t remember where it came. This recipe will make you proud if you are a fan of homemade biscuits but have not had much luck. Enjoy!!

Serves: Makes 8 tall biscuits

 

Ingredients

2 c flour
1 Tbsp + 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 c sour cream, i would not suggest subbing light
1 Tbsp + 1 tsp. vegetable oil
4 Tbsp soft butter

Directions

1. Mix the first four ingredients in a medium bowl until well combined.

2. Mix in sour cream by adding spoonfuls, oil, and stir until all is well combined. To get rid of any remaining dry bits, switch to your hands and work with your hands to turn the dough. On a floured surface, knead the dough 8 times.

3. To make an 8-inch circle, roll thick. Only a few passes using your (floured!) rolling pin. Use a cutter to cut 6 biscuits or a floured cup. Make 2 more biscuits from the remaining dough. You can then knead the dough a little more, then you can pat it or roll it up and cut it. If you have any leftovers, take it out and discard any bits. I placed mine on a round, metal pizza pan that was covered in foil and then sprayed with butter-flavored Pam. A cookie sheet is also fine.

4. Spread butter on the top of the biscuits. Bake the biscuits in a preheated oven at 425 degrees for between 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Take out of the oven, and butter the tops with half of the butter. Warm with butter, honey or homemade jam. This recipe makes 8 tall sour-cream biscuits.
